Grant Writing & Resume Building

Seminar | 6:30 - 8 pm

Instructor: Meghann Michalsky

Did you know you can receive a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts or Alberta Foundation for the Arts to pursue professional development outside of your home city? Miss Meghann will lead the group through grant guidelines, and the application process. She will share her tactics on devising strategy, articulating one's thoughts into writing, organizing content, and assessing risk from a grant jury’s point of view.

If you're looking to become a professional dancer - having an organized and clear resume is key. It's often the first thing the choreographer or director will look at before an audition video. Miss Meghann will give some key tips in creating your first resume and or improving your current one.

Dance History

Seminar | 12:30 pm - 2 pm

Instructor: Alén Martel

We'll look at some of the flaws of how we look at dance history in popular culture, examine some interesting moments in dance history, and conclude with a movement component. Specifically, we'll critique ballet's role as the "base of dance" and how you can have multiple bases and look at what it means to look at dance with equity and specificity.

Movement Analysis

Technique | 2 pm - 3 pm

Instructor: Janelle Maddox

In this workshop, dancers will learn the basics of Bartenieff Fundamentals and Laban Movement Analysis in order to dig deeper into the root of contemporary dance. Dancers will leave this workshop with a stronger understanding and ability in floorwork basics, dynamic qualities, and effort actions.

Composition

Seminar | 3 pm - 4 pm

Instructor: Janelle Maddox

This workshop will teach you fundamental skills to creating choreography; from finding inspiration and learning choreographic devices, to composition and formations for the stage. These approaches will help you add dynamics to your work, break movement habits, and assist you in creating in a way you may have not considered before.
