Our Story
We both grew up dancing and decided to pursue dance after high school graduation. Obtaining our bachelor of arts degree in dance from The University of Calgary, opened our eyes to new dance possibilities. It was exciting to discover new ways to move, grasp a better understanding of anatomy and body mechanics, and become more aware of the power of dance. Because we felt that we have a lot to share with dancers, families, and dance teachers, in 2015 we started Maddox Dance Company.
Brittany’s specialty is teaching young families by using a method called Brain-Compatible Dance Education, created by Anne Green Gilbert. She loves teaching parents and young children about the importance of movement and how we can move to help the brain become more efficient.
Janelle is the creator. She loves teaching experienced dancers how to generate their own authentic movement through improvisational or choreographic tasks. For the past three years, she’s choreographed pieces for our Summer Contemporary Dance Collective Showcase.
We love working together and find great balance between our two passions.

The Meaning of Maddox
Maddox isn’t just our maiden name. It represents the people that first taught us about unconditional love, compassion, and respect. The people that taught us the value of hard work, loyalty, and commitment. It’s a name that holds all of the values we share. We were so blessed to have been born into this family but realize not everyone grew up like this. We feel it is now our responsibility to carry these values forward to positively impact as many lives as we can. And that’s the meaning of Maddox.
