Required Class wear

Why do we have required class wear?

  1. It prevents students from comparing their style or status

  2. Teachers are able to see the dancers’ bodies to provide effective feedback

  3. It provides a clean look to help choreographers visualize their pieces

  4. Gives dancers a sense of belonging and makes us look like the strong team that we are

Littles (ages 3-5)

    • Beige Ballet slippers

    • Leotard (no visible underwear)

    • Tights

    • Ballet skirt is optional

    • OR t-shirt, and black shorts (above the knee)

    • Hair must be pulled back into a ballet bun. Short hair must be pinned out of the face.

    • Beige Tap shoes

    • Clothes that the dancer is comfortable dancing in.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face but does not need to be in a bun.

    • Non-marking sneakers

    • Comfortable, loose clothing (do not wear your ballet class wear). Clothing must not affect the safety of themselves or others.

    • Hair can be worn down but must have an elastic available to put up if needed. 

Recreational

    • Beige Ballet slippers

    • Bare feet

    • Clothes that the dancer is comfortable dancing in.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face but does not need to be in a bun. 

    • Jazz Shoes may be required, pending teachers preference

    • Non-marking sneakers

    • Comfortable, loose clothing (do not wear your ballet class wear). Clothing must not affect the safety of themselves or others.

    • Hair can be worn down but must have an elastic available to put up if needed. 

Pre-Competitive

    • Beige Ballet slippers

    • MDC teal leotard, tights matching dancer’s skin tone, no visible underwear, teal ballet skirt is optional

    • OR MDC teal t-shirt, and black shorts (above the knee)

    • Tights that match the dancer's skin tone

Semi & Full Competitive

    • Bare feet

    • Tights that match the dancer's skin tone

    • Black shorts, or leggings 

    • OR MDC Teal t-shirt, and black shorts (above the knee)

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face but does not need to be in a bun. 

    • Beige Ballet slippers

    • MDC teal leotard, tights matching dancer’s skin tone, no visible underwear, teal ballet skirt is optional

    • OR MDC teal t-shirt, and black shorts (above the knee)

    • Hair must be pulled back into a ballet bun. Short hair must be pinned out of the face.

    • Bare feet

    • Dress in layers for floor work (long pants/long sleeve shirt). Dancers may wear any all-black attire that they feel comfortable in as long as it does not affect the safety of themselves or others (nothing overly baggy) OR an MDC teal leotard with shorts or leggings.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face, but does not need to be in a bun.
