MDC Classwear

What should my dancer wear to dance class? That will all depend on which class or program you’ve registered for. Scroll down to learn more.

Littles (Ages 3-5)

    • Shoes: Ballet slippers

    • Leotard (no visible underwear)

    • Tights

    • Ballet skirt is optional

    • OR t-shirt, and black shorts (above the knee)

    • Hair must be pulled back into a ballet bun. Short hair must be pinned out of the face.

    • Clothes that the dancer is comfortable dancing in.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face but does not need to be in a bun.

    • Beige Tap shoes

    • Clothes that the dancer is comfortable dancing in.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face, but does not need to be in a bun.

    • Non-marking white sneakers

    • Comfortable, loose clothing. Clothing must not affect their safety or others.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face but does not need to be in a bun.

Recreational

    • Beige Ballet slippers

    • Leotard (no visible underwear)

    • Tights

    • Ballet skirt is optional

    • OR t-shirt, and black shorts (above the knee)

    • Hair must be pulled back into a ballet bun. Short hair must be pinned out of the face.

    • Bare feet

    • Clothes that the dancer is comfortable dancing in.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face but does not need to be in a bun. 

    • Jazz Shoes may be required, pending teachers preference

    • Non-marking white sneakers

    • Comfortable, loose clothing (do not wear your ballet class wear). Clothing must not affect the safety of themselves or others.

    • Hair can be worn down but must have an elastic available to put up if needed. 

Competitive Dancers Classwear

Our competitive dancers require more specific classwear because:

  • It prevents students from comparing their style or status

  • Teachers are able to see the dancers’ bodies to provide effective feedback

  • It provides a clean look to help choreographers visualize their pieces

  • Gives dancers a sense of belonging and makes us look like the strong team that we are

Pre-Competitive

    • Beige Ballet slippers

    • MDC teal leotard, tights matching dancer’s skin tone, no visible underwear, teal ballet skirt is optional

    • OR MDC teal t-shirt, and black shorts (above the knee)

Semi & Full Competitive

    • Beige Ballet slippers

    • MDC teal leotard

    • Dress in layers for floor work (long pants/long sleeve shirt).

    • MDC teal leotard with shorts or leggings.

    • Hair must be pulled back out of the face, but does not need to be in a bun. 

    • Non-marking sneakers

    • Comfortable, loose clothing (do not wear your ballet class wear). Clothing must not affect the safety of themselves or others.
